Learn How to Play 13 Card Rummy Like a Pro

Deal

After dealing 13 cards to each player, the dealer lays the remaining cards face down to create a draw pile.

Sort

Each player arranges their cards into sets and sequences. At least two sequences are desired, one of which should be a pure sequence (a sequence devoid of jokers)

Draw and Discard

A player may draw either the top card from the discard pile or one card from the draw pile during their turn. Then, one card must be added to the discard pile.

Meld

A player may put their completed set or sequence on the table before them. We refer to this as a meld.

Joker

If a player holds a joker, they may swap it for any other card to complete a set or sequence.

Finish

A player may declare by setting their cards on the table after arranging them into sets and sequences. Before the game is over, the other players get one more chance to create their sets and sequences.

Scoring

The winner of the game is the person who announces first and has all of their cards in sets and sequences. The first person to accumulate a certain number of points wins the game, often 101 or 201.
