CPL 2021 Preview: GUY vs SLK

By Devarchit Varma September 2, 2021

The bottom-placed Saint Lucia Kings (SLK) will be under tremendous pressure when they take on the fourth placed Guyana Amazon Warriors  (GUY) in the match number 13 of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021 tournament, at the Warner’s Park on Thursday.

Saint Lucia Kings are at the last position in the CPL 2021 points table with two defeats and one victory so far in the three matches that they have played, earning only two points so far in the court tournament with a negative rate of -2.367. On the other hand, their opponents on Thursday night, Guyana Amazon Warriors have a couple of victories and as many defeats from the four matches that they have played, which gives them a net run rate of -0.097 and four points to show.

This is the first instance in the CPL 2000 tournament when these two teams are facing off. SLK will have to be cautious of the firepower that is there in Guyana Amazon Warriors ranks as the likes of Shimron Hetmyer and Mohammad Hafeez have been firing on all cylinders.

Hetmyer has so far scored 137 runs in four matches with two fifties, which puts him at the third spot so far in the list of most run-scorers in the tournament. On the other hand, Hafeez is not too far behind with 132 runs in four matches, which includes one fifty, which puts him in fifth position. With the ball, GUY have two very successful bowlers in Romario Shepherd and Imran Tahir.

For the SLK side, Andre Fletcher is their biggest hope with the bat having scored 118 runs in three matches with one half-century. The team will also be dependent on Kesrick Williams and Roston Chase to get wickets, as these two have so far bagged four wickets apiece in the tournament.
