Euro 2020: ITA vs SUI Preview

By Parameswaran Sankaranarayanan June 17, 2021

Italy (ITA) will aim to seal a spot in the last 16 when they meet Switzerland (SWI) in the Group A clash. Three second-half goals helped them register a comfortable win against Turkey in their opening fixture. Switzerland, meanwhile, will be keen to grab at least a point against the Azzurri. If they get a draw, the La Nati can make it to the knockout stages with a victory in their final group stage fixture.

Ciro Immobile, Lorenzo Insigne, and Domenico Berardi were outstanding against Turkey. The trio, relentless in their attack, was involved in all three goals. Meanwhile, Jorginho, Manuel Locatelli, and Nicolo Barella bossed the midfield and kept Turkey attacking players at bay. The Italy backline will be hoping to keep a tenth successive clean sheet.

A momentary lapse of concentration resulted in Switzerland settling for a point against Wales on Saturday. They took the lead through Breel Embolo after the 24-year-old headed home from Xherdan Shaqiri’s corner. He could have had an assist, too, after setting up substitute Mario Gavranovic. But the 84th-minute strike was deemed offside by video assistant referees. The Swiss back three, led by Newcastle United’s Fabian Schar, will be hoping to produce a perfect performance against Italy.
