The Euro 2020 group stage has come to a close. A total of 16 teams, including defending champions Portugal and world champions France, have progressed to the knockout stages. Italy, Belgium, and the Netherlands won all their matches in the group stage, while Denmark finished runners-up in Group B despite losing their opening two fixtures.
Roberto Mancini’s Italy and Harry Kane-led England didn’t concede a single goal in the group stage. Meanwhile, the Netherlands, playing their first major tournament since 2014, netted eight goals and emerged as the leading scorers in the first round. Italy, Portugal, and Belgium are joint-second with seven goals.
With five goals, Cristiano Ronaldo is the leading goalscorer in the tournament. He struck a brace against Hungary and France and netted the opening goal in the defeat against Germany. Emil Forsberg, Georginio Wijnaldum, Patrik Schick, Robert Lewandowski, and Romelu Lukaku have scored three goals each. Switzerland’s Steven Zuber and Denmark midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg top the assists chart with three assists.
