Jaydev Unadkat extends auction record, Jofra Archer bolsters Mumbai

By Devarchit Varma February 13, 2022

The Saurashtra workhorse, left-arm fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat extended his record for being bought most number of times to 10 when he was purchased by Team Mumbai on the second day of the Indian T20 League 2022 mega auction, held in Bangalore over the weekend. Unadkat was acquired by Mumbai for a price of ₹1.3 crores.

For someone who should have been given more opportunities to play for India than he has got so far, Unadkat has remained one of the best in the business when it comes to bowling on flat and batting-friendly pitches in India, particularly with the red ball. He has been exceptional in the last few seasons of the Ranji Trophy, leading Saurashtra to their title win in the 2019-20 season when they beat Bengal in the final.

Apart from Unadkat, the Mumbai camp which remained silent for a large part of the auction on Saturday as well as Sunday, surprised one and all when they ended up splurging ₹8 crores for the English bowler Jofra Archer, who will now pair up with the unplayable Jasprit Bumrah to form one of the most dangerous fast bowling attacks in the history of the tournament.

Archer may not be available for Indian T20 League 2022 since he has been sidelined owing to an elbow injury for a very long time now, and there is a strong possibility of the right-arm menacing Barbadian to join the likes of Bumrah and Unadkat only in Indian T20 League 2023. But as far as fans of the team and cricket in general are concerned, no one can wait to see this bowling combination bowling together already.
