Q & A

Fantasy tips and tricks: Should I pick more bowlers, batsmen or all-rounders?

It is a contest between teams whose batting line-up have not been able to live up to the expectations or even do justice with the reputation that they carry. For Kolkata, fast bowler Pat Cummins was the hero with the bat in their previous match against Mumbai, who smacked a record half-century to guide them to a win that looked unlikely at one stage in Pune. On the other hand, Delhi have had their share of troubles with the bat since they could not find enough runs together to challenge the threat of Lucknow, who are indeed one of the strongest teams in the tournament. For the match to be played at the Brabourne Stadium between Kolkata and Delhi, it will be wise to add extra batsmen who can also bowl disciplined lines and lengths since this venue has largely been about scoring big runs.

Fantasy tips: From which team should I pick more players in my XI? Which team is stronger?

Even though Kolkata have not been able to play to their full potential yet at this stage in the tournament, the Shreyas Iyer-led team is sitting at the top of the points table of the Indian T20 Cricket League 2022 tournament. On the other hand, the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi are languishing at the 7th spot with only a solitary win to show from 3 matches, with their Net Run Rate of -0.116 also hurting them. In their previous match against Lucknow, Prithvi Shaw smacked a 34-ball 61 to provide Delhi with a strong and rapid start but the rest could not keep up and ended up at just 149/3, which was one of lowest totals in the tournament’s history when only 3 wickets are lost by any side. Given their current standings and performances, Kolkata look ahead of Delhi and should have more players featuring in the fantasy cricket playing XI.

MORE INFORMATION: The addition of Pat Cummins to their side has indeed given Kolkata a shot in the arm with the Australian Test captain smacking the joint fastest half-century ever in the history of the Indian T20 Cricket League while also taking a couple of wickets against Mumbai. Kolkata will hope that Cummins continues with his magical show in the coming matches. Delhi will want to put behind the disappointing results that they had had of late and put a fresh foot forward with best efforts. For Delhi, the return of Anrich Nortje after a long period of anticipation and anxious wait resulted in a disappointing outing for the South African fast bowler, but he will be expected to come good soon given his class and quality.

PLAYERS’ FORM: As things stand right now, there is not a single batsman from either Kolkata or Delhi who features in the first of top 10 batsmen with most runs so far in the Indian T20 Cricket League. While there indeed have been individual flashes of brilliance like the one witnessed in the previous match between Kolkata and Mumbai with Pat Cummins coming up with a shocking knock, Kolkata batsmen are yet to fire in unison and the same can be said for those from Delhi. Among the bowlers, Kolkata’s Umesh Yadav is currently topping the charts with 9 wickets in 4 matches.

Kolkata, Delhi look to get over batting blues

Kolkata and Delhi will look to produce inspired performances with the bat when they face off in the Match No 19 of the ongoing Indian T20 Cricket League 2022 tournament, to be played at the batting-friendly venue in Brabourne stadium in Mumbai on Sunday afternoon.

While Kolkata or sitting pretty at the top of the pile in the points table for the Indian T20 Cricket League 2022 tournament, one of the competition’s most formidable and dangerous sides Delhi have so far not been able to make their mark and produce a unified performance.

Kolkata are coming into this contest off an impressive 5-wicket victory over Mumbai, which was powered by a stunning knock from Pat Cummins with the bat in which he hammered the joint fastest half-century from 15 balls to score 56 not out.

On the other hand, Delhi had a forgettable outing against new team Lucknow as they could only manage 149/3 despite a quickfire half-century from Prithvi Shaw at the start of their innings.

Delhi lost the contest by 5 wickets and currently have only 1 victory to show from 3 matches that they have played so far in the competition this year, which came against Mumbai in their tournament opener when all-rounders Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav delivered with the bat.

The Rishabh Pant-led side will expect better returns from their overseas players David Warner and Anrich Nortje, who were finally available for selection and played against Lucknow in their previous match. Both Warner and Nortje had ordinary returns and they would want to quickly get into the groove as their team needs them to fire.

Delhi are not the only side who are grappling with the problem of their batsmen not being able to put up a consolidated effort as Kolkata or also dealing with a similar issue.

Kolkata captain Shreyas Iyer came into this tournament on the back of three unbeaten half-centuries in the T20Is against Sri Lanka in February this year, but since then he has had a quiet time with the bat in the world's biggest T20 cricket competition. Kolkata's middle-order mainstay Nitish Rana has also been a failure with the bat.

Venkatesh Iyer scored an unbeaten 50 against Mumbai and Kolkata would want their flamboyant all-rounder to continue making giant strides.
