Q & A

Fantasy tips and tricks: Should I pick more bowlers, batsmen or all-rounders?

The DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai has traditionally remained a favourable wicket for batsmen in both the innings as teams will look to post big totals and make advantage of the same on Tuesday night here. While the likes of KL Rahul, Quinton De Kock, Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni make Lucknow a formidable side, Bangalore or not too far behind with their lower order batsmen Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed firing on all cylinders and the presence of Glenn Maxwell in the middle order making up for the lack of runs from their captain Faf du Plessis and senior batsman V Kohlii. For this contest, it will be wise to have a long batting line-up along with a penetrative fast bowling attack.

Fantasy tips: From which team should I pick more players in my XI? Which team is stronger?

In terms of performances, there is hardly anything that separates Lucknow from Bangalore. The KL Rahul-led new Indian T20 team Lucknow have been able to make the right moves so far in the 15th edition of the Indian T20 Cricket League 2022 tournament. Lucknow and Bangalore have both won 4 matches and have identical 8 points as they occupy the second and third spots respectively in the points table, with only separating the two teams by a small margin. For this contest, it will be important to have a right balance of batsmen and fast bowlers and spinners are yet to come into play in the Indian T20 Cricket League 2022.

MORE INFORMATION: KL Rahul smacked an unbeaten century for Lucknow in their last match against Mumbai signalling his rich form with the bat, and the right-handed batsman will be expected to fire at the top. The other Lucknow batsmen such as Quinton de Kock, Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni have also been among runs and they will be expected to provide impetus to their innings. Bangalore, on the other hand, will want more from their incumbent and former captain Faf du Plessis and V Kohlii have been struggling to get runs. With the ball, Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel and Josh Hazlewood pose a threat to Lucknow.

PLAYERS’ FORM:  The return of Harshal Patel into the playing XI and the inclusion of Josh Hazlewood in the Bangalore bowling attack has added to their firepower, but still, the team which has perennially remained in search of a title win is yet to fire on all fronts. The lack of big runs from Faf du Plessis and V Kohlii has hurt Bangalore time and again, and times, the outstanding performances from the likes of Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed have masked the failure of their batting guns. For Lucknow, their middle-order and bowling department still have a lot left to do. Avesh Khan has rapidly risen as one of the tournament’s highest wicket-taking bowlers and he will be expected to continue doing the hard work.

Lucknow, Bangalore clash in battle of top teams

Even though they still have some areas of concern and the fact that they both are not firing on all fronts, Lucknow and Bangalore will still be pleased with how their respective journeys have panned out in the ongoing Indian T20 Cricket League 2022 so far.

These two teams are in the top three as the KL Rahul-led Lucknow are currently at No 2 spot whereas Faf du Plessis’ Bangalore are third,  with a small margin of Net Run Rate separating them.

But on Tuesday when they face-off for the first time ever, both Lucknow and Bangalore will look to draw early bird given that they might lock horns at a later stage in the tournament — simply because of the way they have performed. Both the teams have 4 wins and 2 defeats to show from 6 matches so far, and have accumulated 8 points respectively.

However, it is the kind of cricket that they have played matters the most and the kind of promise they carry for the near future.

While Bangalore are desperately awaiting runs from their top guns in V Kohlii and Faf du Plessis, their bowling has added another dimension in the form of Josh Hazlewood, who took a three-wicket match-winning haul against Delhi in their impressive win.

Wanindu Hasaranga has been superb with his skills and Harshal Patel continues to make giant strides in his fledgling career.

And even if the seniors in Faf du Plessis and V Kohlii are taking their time to fire with the bat, the lower-order batsmen Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed are doing a fine job of putting up big partnerships and getting runs at breakneck speed to keep Bangalore on top.

On their part, Lucknow may come across as a side which is heavily dependent on their captain and opening batsman KL Rahul, but there is enough depth and talent in their ranks to see through challenges that come their way.

Manish Pandey was instrumental in Lucknow getting into a dominating position against Mumbai in their last match, and the likes of Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni will be expected to continue doing their bit.

The right-arm pacer Avesh Khan is back among the highest wicket-takers in the Indian T20 Cricket League and his return to form is another booster for the Lucknow side, which is currently placed at No 2 spot in the points table. Their competitor on Tuesday night, Bangalore, are one place behind at the 3rd spot.
