Q & A

Fantasy tips and tricks: Should I pick more bowlers, batsmen or all-rounders?

The pitch at the Wankhede stadium has not favoured any particular style of play so far as it remains a neutral track largely. The home team Mumbai are all but out of the contention for a spot in the Indian T20 Cricket League 2022 play-offs, which means that they have the opportunity to try and test young talent while also playing the role of party spoilers for the other team. For this contest, having a balanced side with the right number of batsmen and bowlers along with a couple of spin bowling options will be the right approach to go with.

Fantasy tips: From which team should I pick more players in my XI? Which team is stronger?

In comparison to the five-time title winners Mumbai, the new team on the block Lucknow have done incredibly well so far this year. The KL Rahul at Lucknow are currently placed fourth in the points table with four victories and three defeats from seven matches in 18 points and a net run rate of 0.1 to 4. Lucknow have an immensely talented side with great depth — something that Mumbai has not been able to showcase in what has been a very difficult year for the five-time champions. Lucknow are the favourites for this contest and should have more players featuring in the fantasy cricket XI not just because of the fact that they have done well compared to Mumbai, but have also had different players at different stages in the tournament so far to keep them where they are.

MORE INFORMATION: With their disappointing loss to Chennai in the last match, Mumbai have become the first team in the history of the Indian T20 Cricket League tournament to have started a season with 7 defeats on the trot. Mumbai has struggled because their key players have not been able to step up and deliver and others such as Ishan Kishan have lost form after showing promise initially. For Lucknow, consistency has been a concern but they would certainly want to put another dominating performance against Mumbai on Sunday night.

PLAYERS’ FORM:  Mumbai with hope that their young batsmen such as Tilak Varma and Dewald Brevis continued to fire especially given that the others in R Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard have cut a sorry figure so far in the tournament. Mumbai is Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has looked in-form more than once but he has only been able to take seven wickets so far. Lucknow, despite having an impressive batting line-up, will continue to depend on their captain KL Rahul to deliver the goods against Mumbai once again.

Lucknow eye vital points in Mumbai’s favourite hunting ground

Lucknow will be eyeing vital points against Mumbai when they face off on Sunday night at the iconic stadium, with the R Sharma-led team relieved to return to what has been their favourite hunting ground all these years in the Indian T20 Cricket League tournament.

Mumbai are already out of contention for a spot in the playoffs for this year’s Indian T20 Cricket League tournament having lost all their 7 matches so far with stronger and more organised teams dominating the five time title winners in all departments.

Mumbai seem to have lost all their batting might which heralded them as one of the best line-ups in the tournament until the mega auction this year. Losing some of their key players such as Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya has indeed left a big void in their side.

The failure of big guns like R Sharma, Kieron Pollard and Jasprit Bumrah has been the biggest reasons why Mumbai have endured a horrendous run this year.

Even though the rise of young players such as Tilak Varma and Dewald Brevis has been a welcome sign, it will be too much to ask for from these experienced batsmen to bail them out of trouble on a consistent basis.

Nevertheless, R Sharma and those who have been in the Mumbai camp from their glory days including coach Mahela Jayawardene, will be able to draw a lot of inspiration from the fact that Mumbai are back at the Wankhede Stadium where they have ruled the roost for many years.

But when the last time these two teams met earlier in the tournament, KL Rahul scored a magnificent hundred to power his team to victory over Mumbai. KL Rahul scored 103 not out from just 60 balls with the help of nine fours and 5 sixes to power Lucknow to a strong total of 199/4, and in their reply, Mumbai could manage only 181/9 from their 20 overs.
