Q & A

Fantasy tips and tricks: Should I pick more bowlers, batsmen or all-rounders?

The pitch at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai has something for everyone. In the previous contest played here, Lucknow bowler Avesh Khan returned with a superb 4-wicket haul while Jason Holder took 3 wickets. In the same match, spinners such as Krunal Pandya and Washington Sundar claimed 2 wickets apiece, while with the bat both the teams had their batsmen making strong impressions with KL Rahul  top-scoring from both the teams with a fine 68. For creating a fantasy cricket playing XI for this upcoming match between Lucknow and Delhi, a balanced side would be required.

Fantasy tips: From which team should I pick more players in my XI? Which team is stronger?

Lucknow have 2 wins from 3 matches so far in the Indian T20 Cricket League 2022 while Delhi have 1 win and 1 loss from their two matches. It is still a little early to assess the form and firepower of Delhi, who are yet to field their strongest playing XI that includes David Warner. The dashing Australian batsman arrived in Mumbai a few days ago and will soon be able to join his side for action in the tournament. KL Rahul’s Lucknow are turning out to be a team to beat in the tournament as they have shown all-round firepower. A right combination of players from both the teams will be the correct outcome for this query.

MORE INFORMATION: Delhi would not be wrong in thinking that they have a long way to go in order to achieve their full potential. Delhi’s assistant coach and former Australia and Chennai player Shane Watson has confirmed that David Warner is available for selection for the match against Lucknow, and there is good news from the end of star Delhi fast bowler Anrich Nortje, who is close to full fitness after spending a long time away from action. For Lucknow, the current set of players seem to be gelling well and they might not feel the need to tinker their playing XI.

PLAYERS’ FORM: KL Rahul has been able to get back in top form with the bat whereas the likes of Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni have been the pillars for Lucknow’s batting line-up. Evin Lewis and Quinton de Kock have done their part well, and Lucknow will be pleased with the way their bowlers, particularly Avesh Khan and Jason Holder performed with the ball. For Delhi, their batsmen need to be more collective with their effort and the bowlers will also have to pull up their socks in order to get the desired result.

Changes in squad (if any): NO

LIKELY XIs:

LUCKNOW: KL Rahul (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Manish Pandey, Evin Lewis, Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni, Krunal Pandya, Jason Holder, Andrew Tye, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan.

FANTASY XI: KL Rahul, Prithvi Shaw, Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni, Rishabh Pant, Lalit Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Mustafizur Rahman.

Delhi wary of Lucknow’s all-round firepower

The Rishabh Pant-led Delhi will be wary of the all-round abilities of the new Indian T20 Cricket League 2022 team Lucknow, when they face-off with the KL Rahul-led team in the Match No 15 at the DY Patil Stadium on Thursday.

Lucknow have recorded wins in 2 out of 3 matches that they have played so far, defeating former champions Chennai and Punjab in the process. On the other hand, Delhi got the better of Mumbai in their opening match but fell short against another new team in the competition, Gujarat.

The KL Rahul-led Lucknow are presently at the 5th position in the Indian T20 Cricket League 2022 points table with 4 points and a Net Run Rate (NRR) of 0.193. On their part, Delhi have 2 points and a NRR of 0.065 with a win and a defeat giving them only 2 points.

Delhi will be eagerly waiting for the final go-ahead on their explosive opening batsman David Warner, who is out of the mandatory quarantine period in the hotel in Mumbai and has linked-up with his team.

There is more good news in store for Delhi with their star South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje moving steadily toward attaining full fitness. The right-arm bowler has been out of action for months but still joined his Indian T20 Cricket League team in order to have his recovery monitored by the franchise and its physio Patrick Farhart.

Delhi need more from their batsmen with the likes of Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant not doing a lot beyond showing initial promise. Their overseas opening batsman Tim Seifert has struggled for runs despite getting starts, and the lower-order has been challenged in both the matches to get wickets.

Lucknow will bank on their former Delhi pacer Avesh Khan to exploit the weaknesses of his ex colleagues whom he will be facing in the contest on Thursday night.

After a poor start, the right-arm pacer took a 4-wicket haul against Hyderabad to announce his return among wickets, whereas West Indian Jason Holder too proved his worth with a tight spell including 3 wickets.

Lucknow’s biggest strength lies in their batting — the bunch consisting KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Evin Lewis, Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni has done well together, bailing the team out of trouble on two occasions to put them in a winning spot.

In the lower-order and with the ball, Krunal Pandya has been vital for Lucknow’s success and the role of Ravi Bishnoi to attack the batsmen has been the right approach with the leg-spinner.
