London Spirit (LNS) will be aiming to pick up their first win when they host Southern Brave (SOB) at Lord’s. The Eoin Morgan-led side has lost two games and shared points with Oval Invincibles in their second game. Meanwhile, Southern Brave beat Birmingham Phoenix and clinched their first win in the tournament. They are seventh in the points table with two points from three matches.
Team News
London Spirit’s top-order failed to spark in the narrow defeat against Trent Rockets. Opening batsman Josh Inglis managed just 13, and Morgan couldn’t convert his start into a match-winning knock. They are unlikely to make personnel changes in the batting line-up but could see Joe Denly and the skipper Morgan bat higher up in the order. Also, Rossington will be keen to make his opportunity count after scoring just four on his Hundred debut.
The bowling unit pulled off an excellent performance against a strong Trent Rockets. The spin trio Mohammad Nabi, Roelof van der Merwe, and Mason Crane combined picked up four wickets and conceded only 65 runs from 60 balls. They will be hoping to be more productive on the spin-friendly surface at Lord’s.
Mahela Jayawardene, the Southern Brave head coach, will be relieved that the key batters have found their groove in the victory against Birmingham Phoenix. James Vince struck a fluent half-century, while Devon Conway made a crucial 34. All-rounder Chris Jordan impressed the most. After a disappointing outing with the ball, he scored an unbeaten 17. It was the kind of contribution that reiterated Jordan’s match-winning abilities.
Colin de Grandhomme produced another unimpressive performance with bat and ball. But the overseas player is likely to remain in the playing eleven. With spinners grabbed all 12 wickets that fell in the last game at Lord’s, Southern Brave could go with three slow bowlers. If so, Danny Briggs, too, will find a place in the playing eleven.
